PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

IMG_2207Welcome to the STORM (Super Twins of the Rocky Mountains) web site. I hope you find our site informational and helpful in the quest of parenting higher order multiples (triplets and more). Being a parent of triplets has been an amazing experience, and I would not have made it thus far without my affiliation with STORM (formerly MOST – Mothers of Super Twins). I can still remember the day I found out I was pregnant with triplets. After recovering from the shock of seeing three little flashing lights on the ultrasound screen, I knew I had to find a support system for parents of multiples in Colorado.  I was lucky to work with a triplet Dad who immediately brought me the MOST newsletter and got me on my way to becoming a member of the club.  Before I knew it, I was attending my first clothing and equipment sale, and was introduced to my Support Mom, Patti DeField. I had so many questions and concerns that Patti was a godsend in knowing exactly what I was going through. Her support and advice was invaluable. She even made a visit to the hospital when I was finally admitted a week before the birth of my kids – Ethan, Delaney and Cyan.

They spent 3 weeks in the hospital to learn how to breathe, swallow and suck simultaneously.  We “roomed in” with the kids the night before they were scheduled to come home and were hit with the reality that our world had dramatically changed.  Thank goodness everyone made it home a few days before the big blizzard of 2003.

The club continued to support Sean and I through the transition of becoming parents to triplets. Club members brought meals, which we really appreciated as eating was the last thing on our mind after making it through 6 feedings a day. I was able to make it out to the monthly dinner meetings to spend time with other triplet moms who had survived the early months – they gave me hope and inspiration.  If they could do it, I could too!

IMG_0119My kids have grown up enjoying the STORM holiday parties and annual summer picnic.  I have made great friendships with other triplet moms and cannot imagine my life without their wisdom, support and camaraderie. I am fortunate to have crossed paths with another triplet mom and formed a very special bond.  Laura and I met in a multiples parenting class when we were 5 months pregnant and ended up in the hospital together before our kids were born. We floated in the pool and gave birth to our kids 3 days apart. We have gone through all of the steps together from day one – from rooming next to each other in the graduate nursery at PSL to surviving hand, foot and mouth disease. She too is active in STORM as a Party Coordinator.

It takes a crazy amount of equipment and clothing to sustain three little kids the same age.  I do not know what I would do without the biannual STORM clothing and equipment sale.  It helps keep my garage manageable with the ability to pass on outgrown items and allows me to buy new clothes and toys for the kids.

This summer, we attended our first annual STORM camping trip.  The kids had a blast and really enjoyed sleeping in a tent for the first time.  It was an enjoyable weekend to spend time outside with other STORM families and get our kids acclimated to roughing it. We will definitely make the trip an annual tradition going forward.

Thank you for visiting our site and I hope it provided the information you were looking for. If I can be of any assistance, please do not hesitate to let me know.
